The Herald of Christ for Young Men

Welcome to the Herald of Christ section of our website. The Herald award is the
culmination of our Battalion
achievement program. Young men who have worked hard to finish the regular achievement
path, and who demonstrate personal depth and a desire to grow in Christ may be given the
opportunity to begin this special award.
Also we have a Herald of Christ program for Leaders. Its requirements are set out in a seperate section of our site. Check it out.

| What are the prerequisites?
- The candidate confesses that Jesus Christ is his Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9-10).
- The candidate must have completed Third Star Rank.
- The candidate shows evidence in his life of growth toward Christian maturity and exhibits no major behavior or attitude problems.
- The candidate must have passed his 16th birthday.
- The candidate must be actively involved in a local Brigade Unit.

| How do I start?
- When you are nearing completion of Third Star, your Captain
will discuss this special challenge with you. If you agree to pursue it he will order the
Herald package form: Canadian Office (Canadians) Brigade HQ (Americans)
- Your Captain will contact your Pastor and the Unit Chairman to sit on your candidate committee. When they are
all ready proceed to the next step.
- Read through the Herald packet with your committee. Design your internship program and
fill out the application in the packet.
- Send a record of your achievement progress from Observer to Three Star along with the
Herald application to your Regional
Director.
- Designate a start date for the program and once confirmation has been received from CSB
you may begin.
- This award must be started before the candidate has reached his 19th
birthday, and be completed no later than his 21st birthday. Please Note:
Experience has shown that specific goals and a timeline of completion will dramatically
increase your chances of actually finishing this project.

| What will I study?
- Bible Study
- Do a book report on 9 books of the Bible
- Bible Doctrine -
- Study four major doctrinal areas
- What do they mean?
- What is their basis in scripture?
- Answer doctrinal challenge questions.
- Review your church's and Brigade's
"Statement of Faith" with you candidate committee.
- Bible Memorization - over 20 verses.
- Missions Research Project
- Select a country and do a background study of life and customs.
- Keep contact with at least two missionaries or nationals to keep your information current and deepen understanding of current conditions.
- Find out how you can get involved in service in that country.
- Reading Assignment
- Read a book relating to one of three Biblical topics.
- Write a book review on the above reading assignment.
- 2000 word "Christian Character Essay"
- A summation of your life, beliefs, future goals and work on this project backed by scripture. It is a presentation of your faith, not a documented research report.
- Due one month prior to completion of the internship program.

- Meet with at least two men who will stretch you to the limit and hold you accountable throughout the project.
- Share the Gospel with 1
non-Christians.
- A three month ministry project in your church or its outreach.

From a Sunday school teacher to usher, from street evangelism to summer camp counselor,this project is designed to broaden your appreciation of your church's outreach and ministries.
- Must be a minimum of 15 hours total project time, but should average around 36 to 40.

This project may be time compressed if larger blocks of time are used. For example a week of camp would be equivalent due to overall hours.
- A three month community project in your home town.

From community work crews to nursing home volunteer, from special events to community education, this project is designed to acquaint you with the needs and interests of your home town and its people.

Must be a minimum of 15 hours total project time, but should average around 36 to 40.
- This project may be time compressed if larger blocks of time are used. For example a
week running a daily recreation program would be equivalent due to overall hours.
- Complete the Basic Leadership Training Course.
- Ask your Captain to contact your Regional Director to arrange this
course.
- Grow in you faith and walk with Jesus.

| What happens when I'm done?
- All work including the essay is approved by your candidate committee.
- The essay is sent to your Regional
Director to be reviewed and marked.
- The candidate, his committee, and the Regional
Director will meet for a final meeting to discuss the candidate's work and approve or
request further revisions.
- All work including the essay is approved by the Regional Director.
- A date is set for the presentation and the candidate committee arranges for a service of
celebration.

Welcome to the Herald of Christ for Leaders section of our website. This discipleship program takes a minimum of one year to complete, under the mentoring eye of another man and your Pastor. The Herald takes you on a path which will build your faith and walk whether you are a new or seasoned Christian. Spending time in God's Word alone and with your accountability group will propel you forward in ways you won't event imagine at first. If simply meeting expectations isn't in your vocabulary, We challenge you to take on this discipleship project.So far six men have completed all the requirements, and are recognised as Heralds of Christ for Leaders. They are Rodney Snow, Tom Hendrickson and Joe McFadden, Steve Bracken, Dave Halverson and Peter Temple.
In addition, over the past several years in Canada we have recognized several men as Honorary Heralds of Christ. Each of these men have distinguished themselves, over a long period of time, a being worthy to be recognized as Heralds of Christ. Check them out at

How do I start?

- Find a man in your church or community who you respect as a committed Christian leader.
This man should also be one who will push you to reach further than you thought possible
and who will hold you accountable. Much of what you achieve in the program will be based
around you mentor.
- Contact your potential mentor and your Pastor to request their presence on your
candidate committee. When both are ready proceed to the next step.
- Read through the Herald booklet with your Pastor and mentor. Design your internship
program and fill out the application in the middle of the book.
- Send the application to your Regional
Director.
- Designate a start date for the program and once confirmation has been received from CSB
you may begin.
- THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT FOR COMPLETION - However: experience has shown that specific
goals and a timeline of completion will dramatically increase your chances of actually
finishing this project.

- Read the entire Bible in a year.
- Do a book report on 6 books of the Bible
- Read the Gospel of Mark in a single sitting
Bible Doctrine -
- Create your own "Statement of Faith" backed by scripture.
- Study four major doctrinal areas
- What do they mean?
- What is their basis in scripture?
- Answer doctrinal challenge questions.
Review your church's and Brigade's

- Begin supporting a missionary.
They can be with Brigade, sent from your church or denomination, or from an inter church mission agency. Remember money isn't the most important thing to missionary staff. Prayer, letters and small gifts are vital links to home. Money simply allows you to spread the Gospel in more places than you may be able to reach otherwise.
- Serve as a Brigade leader for at least one year.
- Complete the Basic Leadership Training Course. Contact your Regional Director to arrange this course.
- Complete at least 3 Advanced Leadership Training Courses.
- Attend a CSB or church Men's Conference, or equivalent, while working on this program.
- Grow in you faith and walk with Jesus.

- All work including the essay is approved by your candidate committee.
- The essay is sent to your Regional
Director to be reviewed and marked.
- The candidate, his committee, and the Regional
Director will meet for a final meeting to discuss the candidate's work and approve or
request further revisions.
- All work including the essay is approved by the Regional Director.
- A date is set for the presentation and the candidate may choose whatever method of
presentation he wishes.
- The presentation is made with pictures and an article to be sent to CSB Ministries Headquaters for future
publication.
