Who are We?

Our History

Our Future

Our Objective

Who are We?

We are Christian men who have been involved in Christian Service Brigade groups either as boys or as leaders at some time over the past 70 years. Some of us are graduates of the 'Herald of Christ'. However, most of us were Stockaders as boys, or were Brigadiers, Corporals or Sargeants as teenagers. Many of us were leaders in our local churches across North America.

Now we are joining with current leaders and staff to support the ministry that had an impact on our lives. We want you to join us in this special fellowship that has benefited from the Godly influence of Christian men who were our leaders in days in the past.

Our History

Joseph Coughlin spawned this organization seventy years ago in the State of Illinois. A Sunday School teacher of teenage boys, Joe made a discovery which has affected the lives of thousands of men and boys, world wide. From the ministry to everyday life, there are graduates of the 'Herald of Christ' program setup by Joe. In Canada alone we have a Herald of Christ who was the second most important position of Federal Government. John Manley was the Canadian Federal Government's Deputy Prime Minister, a Herald of Christ from the Ottawa area.

For more than sixty-five years men and boys have interacted together in the pursuit of a Godly lifestyle. Each boy is mentored by an adult in his Christian walk. The boy is challenged to grow spiritually, mentally, physically and socially. His mentor, a man of the local church, is selected for his upstanding qualities. " There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom beyond his years, and God placed his special favor upon him." (Luke 2:40 New Living Translation) It is well known that a tree grows straightest when it grows up with others in close proximity. It is with this thought in mind that a child will grow up in the knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ as savior when guided by the life of a Godly man.

Our Future

Over these sixty-five plus years many men and boys have been involved in our program and now we are active in trying to search out these people to form an "Alumnus" of CSB graduates. It is with greater emphasis on remembering who we are, who we represent and what the parent organization needs.

We are currently recruiting Staff for service across Canada and the United States. these staff personnel will be responsible for training you and your leaders and servicing the needs of churches currently using the Brigade program.

We are also recruiting men for the official Board of Directors. These men share in the business functions and direction of the ministry here in Canada. Their partners south of the border do the same for CSB Ministries in the States.

Brigade has moved forward in many areas recently with the development and implementation of programs such as GirlsAlive' It is also a gender specific program for girls. This is not a restructured boys program as other organizations have used in the past but rather a designed program from the ground up based on principles learned over 65 years of men to boys ministry. Women are leading these girls in a program set out specifically for them.

Our Objective

If you know anyone who was involved with CSB in Canada as a boy, young man, leader, or staff man, we want to hear from them. Why not be involved with us once again as we further God's Kingdom. Send your email inquiries to Harold Browne.
